The Richard Mille RM 35-03 Automatic Rafael Nadal brings together cutting-edge watchmaking, high-performance materials and the sporting spirit of one of tennis’s greatest champions. Part of Richard Mille’s RM 035 “Baby Nadal” collection, the RM 35-03 was developed over three years and introduces an innovative patented Butterfly Rotor, giving the wearer direct control over the winding of the automatic movement.
At the heart of the Richard Mille RM 35-03 Rafael Nadal is the skeletonised automatic calibre RMAL2, displaying hours, minutes and seconds. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers approximately 55 hours of power reserve. Its Grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges are treated with black PVD and electroplasma, combining strength with the intricate finishing expected of a Richard Mille timepiece.
The defining innovation is the Butterfly Rotor. Constructed with Grade 5 titanium arms, metal weight segments and ceramic ball bearings, the patented system allows the wearer to control the rotor’s winding action. Pressing the sport-mode pusher at 7 o’clock changes the rotor geometry, bringing the weights into balance and stopping the winding action during intense physical activity. An indicator at 6 o’clock displays whether the rotor is active.
A second pusher at 2 o’clock operates the function selector, allowing the wearer to switch between winding, neutral and hand-setting functions. The RMAL2 also features a free-sprung balance with variable inertia, designed to improve reliability when subjected to shocks and maintain consistent performance over time.
The RM 35-03 measures 43.15mm x 49.95mm x 13.15mm and is water resistant to 50 metres. Its lightweight Carbon TPT® and Quartz TPT® case construction creates the distinctive layered appearance associated with Richard Mille, while sapphire crystals on the front and back provide a clear view of the skeletonised movement.
